BÁS TONGUE

directed by Willie White

written by Manchán Magan

Mother Tongue is in the emergency ward; each focal ag cryáil amach for the kiss of life. In this bilingual exploration of the fragile soul of Gaeilge, a Béarlóir and a subtitle operator slug it out with tongue tying, grammar wrestling, dictionary massacres and a mutant version of the Pepsi challenge. It’s a celebration of language as weapon, chicaning into some farcical linguistics and a revelatory revival meeting for forgotten words.

"Since Manchán made his theatrical debut at ABSOLUT Fringe 2009 he's been pretty busy. Reinventing Irish language performance one microphone at a time. This new piece promises wit, belly laughs as well as true insight into our relationship with our first official language."
Róise Goan, Festival Director

Cén Fáth Nach Bhfuil an Leathanach seo as Gaeilge?

Is dráma dhátheangach é seo le fortheidil. Is iarracht é dráma a scríobh de dhaoine a bhfuil suim acu i dteanga dhúchais an hÉireann, ach nach bhfuil líofacht acu. Tá sé léirithe i gcomhpháirtíocht le PROJECT CATALYST agus  le cabhair ó Fhoras na Gaeilge.

Cad 'tá i gceist?

Beocht agus bás teangacha, go bunúsach. Nuair a bhristear isteach ar léacht filíochta, ní fada go mbíonn sé ina cíor thuathail le comhrac foclóra agus greadadh ghramadaí. Cé a bhuann i dtroid idir tuairimí agus teanga? Huh? Téann Manchán Magan i mbun iomrascála le cailín ar mhaithe le croí rónaofa na Gaeilge. Cíorann siad trí eilimintí de áiféise na teangeolaíochta, ag úsáid téarmaí i bhfoirm trampailín agus ag foghlaim faoi conas a mhilleann tuismitheoirí a bpáistí.
